Piano lessons introduction:

Lynnette Owens, Piano lessons

Playing the piano can not only bring you a life-time of joy, but is foundational to music learning. If you learn how to play the piano, everything else you attempt to do in music will come more quickly, be more accurate, musical and solid. It gives you the tools you need for excellent musicianship in any area.

Lynnette can teach you how to play in any style you choose, be it classical, contemporary, jazz or rock. She both teaches and demonstrates the techniques for her students then helps them use it in whatever style they choose to play in.

What you'll learn:

In addition, students will learn:

Music is a performance art:

Instruction time will include preparing students for performances even if they aren't interested in becoming performers. It will include stage technique, how to deal with stage fright and how to deal with the varying personalities of pianos.

Piano lessons FAQs:

What style of piano playing does Lynnette teach?

Students will learn a range of styles from the classics to jazz to contemporary. Lynnette teaches note reading from the beginning using piano course books that have songs students recognize and enjoy so they will tend to practice more. She teaches music theory and piano technique within the songs the student is learning so there is not only a practical application but also a more enjoyable way to learn both.

Do I need a piano and what kind of piano should I get?

Yes. You need to have a piano. A good, well-tuned accoustic piano is best, but a weighted-keys, full size (88 keys), digital piano can suffice especially for beginners.

How often will I have my lessons?

Lessons are scheduled in a two month cycle. One month will have four regular private lessons and the next month will have three regular private lessons with the fourth lesson being a group lesson Master Class which happens at the end of the month and replaces all private lessons for the week. The Master Class/group lessons serve to showcase the work that has been done in the private lessons and expand a student's education by learning from everyone else!

What are Master Class/group lessons like?

Master Class/group lessons are at the end of the month, every other month and replace the private lesson for the week. They are paid for as a lesson as part of the $100 per month. They showcase the work that has been done in the private lessons, expand a student's education by learning from everyone else and gives those with performing aspirations the experience they need to prepare them for that arena. They take place in a recital hall. Students are expected to perform what they've been working on during previous lessons. Students can attend the entire Master Class or just show up sometime during it and stay as long as they can. Parents, friends and family members are welcome to come and support their students. Students are expected not only to perform but to watch, learn and comment on other students' performances so they are an active participant and learning music in a much broader fashion.

How much and how long should I practice?

Lynnette recommends daily practice. For a beginner, just 20 minutes per day will do but as you advance more time needs to be added.

How much do lessons cost?

The monthly lesson fee is $100 per month for a 30 minute lesson slot which in a normal month will include four 30 minute private lessons and in a Master Class month will include three 30 minute private lessons and one Master Class/group lesson. Lessons cost $25.00 per half hour.

When are lesson payments due?

Lesson payments are due the first lesson of each month for the upcoming month. You can pay with the PayPal "Add to Cart" button below, checks, cash or Venmo. You must pay for the entire month. Lesson time slots that are not paid for at or by the first lesson of the month will NOT be reserved for you unless other payment arrangements have been made with and approved by Lynnette.

Rescheduling policy: 24 hours notice is required to reschedule.

If you reserve a time-slot for a lesson, that time slot will cost $100 per month. Students pay for a time slot whether they are there or not. Students may only reschedule their lessons one time per month maximally. 24 hours of notice is required to reschedule, and if it is not given, the lesson will be forfeited and not made up. When a student wants to reschedule, they are asking for another additional time slot which they have not paid for and for which another paying student could be in. If a time cannot be found for them to reschedule it to, they will simply forfeit that lesson, and it will not be made up. If a student chooses not to reschedule but simply cancels their lesson, that lesson is forfeited and will not be made up. If a student is sick, Lynnette must be notified by 11:00 am that day if the student wants to reschedule the lesson or the lesson will be forfeited. Make-up lessons (rescheduled lessons) that are missed for any reason will not be rescheduled and the lesson will be forfeited. Lessons cancelled by me will always made up at a mutually convenient time.
